Our Wines

Our wines are made using organically-grown estate grapes. The winemaking is kept as simple and natural as possible and cellar practices are traditional. The pressed juice is fermented with natural yeasts, and the wines in most instances are bottled without fining or filtration. Production is limited, particularly of the single-vineyard wines. Stark-Condé remains committed to producing hand-crafted premium wines. Winemaker: Rudger van Wyk (since 2018)

Round Mountain Sauvignon Blanc

This single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is made from a high elevation vineyard block which has consistently produced fruit with concentration and excellent natural acidity. The wine is made using traditional winemaking practices and is fermented in mainly older, neutral French Oak barrels. A two-time winner of the Old Mutual Trophy and also of the FNB Top 10 Sauvignon Blanc Award.

Field Blend Estate White

This aromatic white blend is made from a single vineyard block which consists of 4 different grape varietals. The grapes were planted with the specific intention of creating this unique blend. Roussanne and Viognier add richness and texture, while Chenin Blanc and Verdelho add bright fruit and acidity. The wine is delicately oaked, and handled as carefully and naturally as possible.

Monk Stone Chenin Blanc

Chenin Blanc is a relatively rare varietal in our area of Stellenbosch but the higher, cooler slopes and granite soils are well suited to producing an intense, mineral style. This complex, finely-crafted Chenin Blanc was matured in a combination of handmade clay amphorae and neutral French oak barrels to build texture on the palate coupled with freshness.

Stellenbosch Syrah

This Syrah is made primarily from a unique vineyard on the estate which is scattered with large river stones. The resulting old-world style Syrah is elegant and floral, and is a contrast to the bold ripe style of the warmer growing regions. A small amount of Viognier and Roussanne grapes are co-fermented to add aromatics and a finely textured tannin.

Stellenbosch Petite Sirah

Petite Sirah, which is an entirely different grape from Syrah, is a varietal that has only recently been planted in South Africa. There are just a handful of estates bottling this varietal on its own. Petite Syrah is known not only for its intense color and flavor, but also for its excellent acidity and robust tannin.

Lingen Red Blend

This wine is made from a 1.5 hectare “clos” or walled vineyard which is located just up the road from Stark-Condé. The site was specifically planted with the idea of making a unique single-vineyard blend. In addition to the dominant Syrah, this wine also has other varietals as blending components resulting in an aromatic wine with a rich palate and soft elegant tannins.

Three Pines Cabernet Sauvignon

This single-vineyard iconic Cabernet is based on a high elevation vineyard site (350m). The finely textured decomposed granite soil, cooler temperatures, and ample winter rainfall creates perfect growing conditions for premium Cabernet. Three Pines Syrah

Of all the wines that we produce on the estate, this single-vineyard Syrah is our smallest production. It is made from an older block of Syrah which measures just 22 rows of vines. One critic described the wine as “having the texture of crushed violets” and it exerts a fine balance between power and elegance.

Oude Nektar Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine is based around the highest elevation vineyard on the estate, which at 550m is arguably one of Stellenbosch’s highest Cabernet vineyards. The site has very stoney decomposed granite soils, and a perfect aspect toward the afternoon sun. Although this vineyard gets a cooling breeze, it averages 45 minutes more sunlight each day which allows for a slower ripening period. This Bordeaux-style blend is matured for about 20 months in French oak barrel (70% new) before being bottled with no fining and no filtration.
